Men Too
Under your left nipple, something hard.
The doctor gawks. It happens to men too,
unhealthy flesh congeals and
spews its microscopic seeds into the lymph.
The face in the mirror blackens and disappears.
A world without self, swings
like a hanged man from an endless noose.
The mammogram you have in one of those loose
paper gowns is inconclusive, the surgeon
dubious. But better to cut than dangle.
A blue sheet tenting over your head conceals
the blade´s caress, the rush of blood. The nurse
sponges it up. Your mother wanted a
daughter first. Welcome to the sisterhood.
