Five spices temper
everything.
Fierce mustard makes them
sing. Saunf funnels
greenly, jeera jeers, kalonji
blackens all, ajwain essays
a caustic turn, methi
bitter as usual
scowls in spots.
The five
like fingers, foolish
princes, Christ’s wounds
seethe together
to give food
a bite.
