Spring Concert

Spring Concert

By Luis Cabalquinto

The noontime sun I catch, rather
than warm, cools. The jadelike grass
with four black squirrels sit
up and listen. Someone is singing
or the wind is working its way
down from the oak trees. I can read
the classical score: tree branches
make up its bars on which
bluejays convene as musical notes.

Come, it's standing room only,
here in the back.
