Congratulations to Melissa Febos, winner of Prairie Schooner's second annual Creative Nonfiction Contest! We received more than 500 excellent submissions, and contest judge Lia Purpura had this to say about Febos's winning essay, “Call My Name”:

“This essay actively bodies forth language, and the author's sense of authentic discovery (exciting verbal events just keep unfurling, generating, exfoliating) allowed me to engage intimately with the piece for the duration. Beautiful, deeply felt, fresh and surprising sense of the word.”

“Call My Name” will appear in the Spring 2014 issue of Prairie Schooner. Stay tuned for an interview with Melissa!

Congratulations are also in order for the two runners-up: Barbara Hurd, for her essay “Listening to the Same River Twice: Theme and Variations,” and Gary McDowell for his essay, “There are Manuals for Those.”
