Lorrie Moore Recap!
Acclaimed writer Lorrie Moore, author of such contemporary classics as the short story collections Self Help and Birds of America, as well as the novels Who Will Run the Frog Hospital and most recently A Gate at the Stairs, visited UNL Wednesday. She read two recent stories to a packed yet attentive crowd at UNL’s Great Plains Center. The stories she read displayed many of the characteristics readers have come to love about her work: sardonic wit, relational intelligence and emotional intensity. In what seems to be part of an overall aesthetic career trajectory, they were also distinctly political. Afterwards audience members were treated to cookies, which though delicious could not match the butteriness of Moore’s voice.
